Introduction to Zhejiang Gongshang University

Zhejiang Gongshang University(ZJSU), founded in 1911, is the earliest business school in modernChina. The university is located in a beautiful city, Hangzhou, which is a world-famous tourist resort praised as “a paradise on earth” for its scenic beauty and tranquil environment. Hangzhou is within easy access by air and rail to all major cities inChinaand is less than an hour and a half away from Shanghai by train.

 

ZJSU has developed into the characteristic distinctively, domestic first-class teaching and research university of finance and economics, covering nine academic areas including economics, management, law, literature, history, philosophy, engineering, science and arts.

 

The university has a full-time student population of over 26900, including 22800 bachelors and 3300 masters and doctors. Over 1000 international students are studying here coming from more than one hundred countries.

 

College of International Education (CIE) of Zhejiang Gongshang University is an institute engaged in international Chinese language Education for international students since 1990s. CIE provides different kinds of Chinese language and Culture programs, Bachelor Program of Chinese and Literature in the field of Business and Program of China and Chinese Business, which have been spoken highly by international students all over the world.

 

Chinese language and Culture programs are available on both campuses: Xiasha Campus and Downtown Campus. Xiasha Campus is the central campus of ZJSU, it is located in Xiasha University Town at the northeastern part of Hangzhou City. The campus is close to the famous Qiantang Rive, the tide of which is a splendid and miraculous phenomenon in the world. Downtown campus, the cradle of ZJSU, is located in the central part of Hangzhou city, ten minutes drive to the famous West Lake, the National Wetland Park and Grand  Canal.

 

Program Introduction

1Intensive Chinese Language Program(HSK Training and Foundation Program)

 

Program targets

This program is specially designed for following international students

■ Students who want to apply for Chinese-Medium undergraduate or graduate degree programs in Chinese universities.

■ Students who want to be prepared for an HSK test of Level 4 or above.

■ Students who want to improve Chinese proficiency in a short time, so as to adapt to living and working inChina.

Program Objective

 

Through one-year study, students are expected to acquire as follows:

■ A good command of Chinese language communication skills.

■ A good master of the basic abilities in Listening, Recording and Inquiry in Chinese language communication circumstance.

■ Initial abilities in reading Chinese professional materials with the assistance of reference books.

■ Passing HSK test level 4 on the basis of high attendance of one year’s intensive study, to reach the language requirement to apply for Chinese-Medium degree programs in Chinese universities.

 

Teaching Arrangement

 

The duration of the program is 32 weeks (two semesters) with 28 class hours per week (including 4 hours of after-school tutoring). Each international student will be provided with a Chinese partner to practice and improve Chinese proficiency in this program. This program is only available on Xiasha Campus.

 

Program-related field trips, such us visits, tours, interviews, sightseeing, are to be organized once each semester for students in this program.

 

Main Courses

Comprehensive Chinese, Listening, Chinese character Reading and Writing, Chinese Conversation, Business Chinese, Science and Technology Chinese, Tourism Chinese, HSK training.

 

2Long-term Chinese Language and Culture Program

This program is designed for international students who want to study Chinese language for one semester or more. Three levels of the courses are offered: Essential Level, Intermediate Level and Advanced Level. Students are to be placed in levels that suit them best by taking a proficiency test.

 

 

Teaching Arrangement

 

Xiasha Campus: 16 weeks with 20 class hours per week per semester.

Downtown Campus:

Program A: 16 weeks with 16 class hours per week per semester.

Program B: 16 weeks with 12 class hours per week per semester. (Only available for applicants who do not require student visa)

 

Program-related field trips, such us visits, tours, interviews, sightseeing, are to be organized once each semester for long-term students.

Integrated Reading, Intensive Reading, Extensive Reading, Listening and Speaking, Newspaper Reading, News Listening, Outline ofChinaand so no.

 

Elective Courses

Chinese Culture, Business Chinese, Tourism Chinese, HSK Training, Taiji, Gong-fu, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Chinese Papercuts, Chinese Songs and so on.( Only available on downtown campus)

 

3Business Chinese Program (Non-Degree)

This program is specially designed for international Students with Intermediate Chinese or its equivalent as a foundation. It aims to enable the student to have a good command of Chinese business vocabulary and grammar, speaking and writing, raise awareness of cross-culture interaction in business, lay a good Chinese language foundation for studying for degree programs in economics and international trade, learn about China's current economic status, investment environment and foreign trade policies, so as to enable learners to use the Chinese language in future career. The duration of each semester is 16 weeks with 20 class hours per week.

 

4Short-term Chinese Language and Culture Program

This program is specially designed for groups of international Students (10 people or above) all year round. Courses can be specially designed upon request, with language courses, Chinese Business and Culture courses in combination with elective courses (Taiji, Gong-fu, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Chinese Papercuts and so on), field trips, industry visits and so on. 

 

Individual short-term students4 weeks or moreare accepted with no time restriction and are to be placed in appropriate levels with long-term students.

Qualifications for Application

——Intensive Chinese Language Program(HSK Training and Foundation Program)Applicants must be international students aged above 18 years old and in good physical condition with high school certificate or higher diploma. Applicants who have studied Chinese in other Chinese universities for half year or above can apply for second level courses.

 

——Chinese Language and Culture ProgramBusiness Chinese ProgramApplicants must be international students aged from 18-60 years old and in good physical condition.

3) Photocopy of passport and 2 photos, which size is as the same as in passport

4) Foreigner Physical Examination Report

5) Applicants who under the age of 18 should submit Guardian’s Letter of Guarantee; guardian must be adult Chinese person or adult foreigners resided inChina

6) Remittance receipt of the application fee of 400 RMB yuan
