The Third Confucius Institute Board Meeting Successfully Held in ZJSU

On June 6, the third meeting of Confucius Institute board established by ZJSU and West Flanders University,Belgium was successfully held in ZJSU Xiasha campus. The members of Board, the Governor of West Flanders Carl Decaluwé, the president of West Flanders University Lode De Geyter, the president of ZJSU Zhang Renshou, vice president Dai Wenzhan and the Dean of Confucius institute from Belgian side and the Dean from Chinese side attended the meeting. Firstly, President Zhang Renshou delivered the welcome speech. Board Chairman Lode De Geyter hosted the Board meeting. Both parties spoke highly of the cooperation between two universities and achievements of Confucius Institute since the establishment three years ago, and expected the prosperity of Confucius Institute, including further expanding the scale of Chinese teaching in Belgium, publishing The Volume of Ferdinand Verbiestto deepen mutual understanding and friendship, enlarging the influence of Confucius Institute by holding summer camp of Belgian University students, and launching more distinctive programs. Then, Belgian Dean of Confucius Institute Philip and Chinese Dean of Confucius Institute Xiao Yuchun respectively made a report of programs held in the past one year, recent planning, financial condition and issues to be addressed to the Board of Directors. The Board discussed the reports and gave some constructive advice. At last, the meeting closed by Governor Carl Decaluwé’s speech.


On April 19th, the Confucius Institute was established in Brugge by joint efforts of ZJSU and HOWEST. Over the past three years, the Confucius Institute has achieved great success under the support ofOffice of Chinese Language Council International and guidance of Zhejiang Bureau of Education. So far, the largest HSK test site has been set up in Confucius Institute. In 2014, Confucius Institute specially undertook culture training for the purpose of welcoming Chinese President Xi Jinping to Belgium. Meanwhile, Confucius Institute conducted various language and culture activities according to local people’s interest. Currently, a series of Chinese culture programs has taken shape, such as Spring Festival Gala, Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition, Confucius Institute Day and so on.
